 The family, as we knew it, has been under a great attack. According to 72.2 % of the U.S. population, fatherlessness is the most significant family or social problem facing America. Statistics say 50% of marriages in the church end in divorce; 25+ million children are living in fatherless homes; fathers that live with their children spend an average of only 37 seconds a day of undivided attention with his children; parents spend 40 percent less time with their children than a generation ago; 40% of children who live in fatherles households haven’t seen their fathers in at least a year. Of the remaining 60%, only 20% sleep one night per month in their father’s home. Only 1 in 6 see their father an average of once or twice per week; Of the children born to married parents, half will experience their parents’ divorce by the age of 18 and lose one of their parents in their daily lives, predominately their father; Three out of four teenage suicides occur in households where a parent has been absent; Children living with never married mothers has grown from 221,000 in 1960 to 5,862,000 in 1995. These and other statistical realities say we need to re-discover family.
